In 1962, the brand Dunlop roots lie in the first Malaysian tyre factory which was built by Dunlop Malaysian Industries Berhad (DMIB).
Dunlop Malaysian Industries Berhad (DMIB), a member of the Sime Darby Group, is principally involved in the manufacturing and marketing of a wide range of motorcycle, passenger car, 4-wheel drive, truck and bus, agricultural, forklift, industrial, military and earthmover tyres.
DMIB is the first tyre manufacturer in Malaysia to be awarded the ISO 9002 Quality Management Systems Certification and enjoys the distinction of being the only company to win the highly-acclaimed National Product Excellence Award five times, in 1991 for its large truck tyre, 1992 for its aircraft tyre, 1994 for its “Green” tyre, 1995 for its military runflat tyre and 1999 for its golf ball. These achievements are the result of DMIB’s continuous expansion and modernization programme in its relentless efforts to be in the forefront of tyre technology and maintain its competitive edge and leadership in the region.
The DIMB’s Dunlop tyres have gained wide acceptance in many countries around the world. The tyres meet European, American, Japanese and other local standards and are exported to over 40 countries.
In 2003, Continental Sime Tyre Sdn Bhd a Malaysian joint venture company between Continental AG Germany (51%) and Sime Darby Berhad (49%), principally involved in the marketing and local manufacturing of a wide range of tyres. In 2012, Continental AG has acquired the remaining percent stake in Continental Sime Tyre Sdn Bhd from joint venture partner Sime Darby Berhad. As a result, the company renamed to Continental Tyre Malaysia Sdn Bhd(CTM) and CTM has the right to produce and market Dunlop tyres in Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore today.
